Cardiac Action Potential
Cardiac action potentials allow an integrated look at the effects of a drug on ion channels important in cardiac conduction and repolarization.
- Assays can be performed using atrial or ventricular myocytes or Purkinje fibers
- Cells can be from guinea pig, rabbit, canine
- Acutely isolated adult human cells available
- Normal or diseased human cells available
Advantages:
- Indicator of multi-channel effects
- Can detect proarrhythmic markers
- Adult human cardiac insight when human myocytes are used
- Avoids issues of embryonic phenotype observed with iPS-CMs
